Exotic Zoology – W. Ley

Willy Ley’s Exotic Zoology
Willy Ley
1959, Viking Press
Originally published in 1941

This book collected the cryptozoological material from Ley’s several books of scientific oddities. While some of the information is outdated, the book remains a fascinating and highly readable collection of zoological discoveries and mysteries.

This comprehensive book bridges the ideas of romantic zoology with modern cryptozoology, containing descriptions of animals clouded with folklore, such as unicorns and dragons, to misinterpretations and scientific wonders. It has some errors, but Ley was one of the most popular science writers of his time making this book an entirely entertaining and marvelous read. One of my favorites. Recommended.
